Deadline for SA voters is fast approaching
A major deadline for South African voters looms this Friday 17 May 2024. Here’s what to do to ensure you’re not turned away at the polls.
We’re all reminded of an important deadline for South African voters. If you intend to cast your vote outside of the area you’re currently registered, you have until Friday 17 May 2024 to re-register on the Electoral Commission of South Africa portal.
It is imperative that anyone who knows they’re registered in the wrong area, or will be away from home on Wednesday 29 May 2024, adheres to this deadline for South African voters. This is the message from chief electoral officer Sy Mamabolo, reports IOL.
DEADLINE FOR SOUTH AFRICAN VOTERS
With less than two weeks to go to the most important vote in South Africa’s 30-year democracy, Mamabolo reminds voters of the consequences of inaction. “You will be turned away if they’re not in the correct registered voting district,” said Mamabolo. To vote outside of your designated area, eligible voters must submit a Section 24A via the online voter registration portal, or at a local IEC office. Click the link HERE to submit your Section 24A. You will have to specify an alternative voting location on the form. “You must submit a Section 24A notification to the Electoral Commission before the deadline. Otherwise, you will not be able to vote outside of your voting district. You will only be able to vote at the station at which you are registered,” confirmed the officer.

Once approved, you will receive confirmation that you may cast your ballot elsewhere, with more details on where exactly. This deadline for South African voters falls on Friday 17 May.
