HOBART, AUSTRALIA – A South Africa rapper has been jailed in Tasmania, Australia, for indecently assaulting a fellow artist who was asleep in her hotel room, it was reported.
Brian Simiso Zwane, who performs as OkMalumKoolKat, was trying to get a fine so that he could leave the country on Friday, but he was given a month-long jail sentence, the report in a Hobart newspaper said. Zwane apparently pleaded guilty to the charges.
Zwane was playing in MOFO, an annual festival in Hobart curated by Brian Ritchie, bass player from the rock band Violent Femmes. The festival ended on 18 January.
The reports said that after he had played at MOFO Zwane went out drinking and then, back at his hotel, entered the room of the victim, a fellow artist, through a sliding door on the balcony. He was arrested the following day and was held in custody since then, the reports said.
