The African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) has suspended former president Jacob Zuma for his involvement with the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

The Independent Online reported that ANC Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula, confirmed on Monday that the former ANC president has been suspended.

He said the party invoked Rule 25 of the ANC Constitution to suspend Zuma temporarily.

Rule 25 says the ANC shall discipline any member, office bearer, or public representative for misconduct, and their membership may be terminated.

Responding to why the party has not taken action against Zuma, Mbalula said principles and values guided the ANC and, therefore, could only act on media reports with proper consultation. He said no ANC member was above the party.
