Zizi Kodwa loses another job due to corruption allegations
Former South African Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa has stepped aside from his duties within the African National Congress (ANC).
Former South African Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa has stepped aside from his duties within the African National Congress (ANC) following corruption charges leveled against him.
Kodwa appeared at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on 5 June, facing accusations of receiving R1.6 million in bribes during his tenure as State Security Deputy Minister.
Despite denying the allegations, Kodwa decided to resign from his position as Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture immediately after his court appearance.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Kodwa expressed gratitude to the President and the governing party for the opportunity to serve the nation.
Kodwa also thanked the staff of the ministry and department, as well as stakeholders in the sports, arts, and culture sectors, for their collaboration during his tenure.
“Kodwa has informed the President that he will resign as Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture and Member of Cabinet, after being formally charged. He expresses his sincere appreciation to the President and the governing party for the opportunity to serve the nation.,” stated the statement.
COMMITMENT TO COMPLIANCE
Despite being out on bail of R30 000, Kodwa notified the ANC of his decision to step aside from his roles in the National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC).
Kodwa cited strict compliance with ANC’s 55 Conference Resolution on Renewal and emphasised his commitment to maintaining the organisation’s name and reputation during the legal proceedings.
“I do this in strict compliance with ANC 55 Conference Resolution on Renewal. In addition to ensure avoidance and protection of the name and reputation of the organisation during the case proceedings against me.
“I remain a committed and a disciplined member of the African National Congress! I will keep you informed on the status and progress of my case,” says Kodwa in a letter sent to ANC Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula.
