South Africa is preparing for its next elections, where every vote counts – but not everyone knows the power that their choice could have over the country’s future.

Democratic elections are sometimes taken for granted. A choice about who gets voted into power wasn’t always there – and April, 1994 was the first time South Africans were granted the human right to choose their politicians.

YOUR VOTE COUNTS: ARE YOU GOING TO USE IT?

According to the SA Government, registering to vote is easy – whether it’s for regional, provincial, or national elections.

Voter registration records your details, guaranteeing a fair and countable election.

It’s like the CAPTCHA system for AI bots, and keeps voting fair. If you haven’t registered prior to the election, you can’t proceed.

Voter registration takes just a few minutes to complete.

REGISTER TO VOTE HERE

Register to vote at the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) website.

Voting registration records your personal details, making sure that you are eligible and registered to participate.

Without this step, you can’t make your voice heard.

After registration, visit your nearest voting station to cast your choice.

What difference does it make?

It’s a common question around election time. Remember: each entry has to be counted and considered during a fair democratic election.
