Residents in parts of Mfuleni will experience a temporary water shutdown this week due to planned maintenance work on the City of Cape Town’s water infrastructure. The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has scheduled upgrades and repairs to ensure long-term service reliability.

Planned water shutdown maintenance and areas affected

The water shutdown in the Emfuleni Garden City area will be on Thursday, 13 February, from 9:00 to 17:00. This work involves installing a bulk water meter for the Garden City 2 Project at the corner of Khwezi Avenue and Mfuleni Road. A water tanker will be stationed in the area to provide emergency water.

“This critical maintenance work is done on our water-supply infrastructure to benefit customers,” said the city.

“The city sincerely regrets any inconvenience.”

How Residents Can Prepare

The City advises affected households and businesses to store sufficient water in advance to avoid disruptions. Also, water should be kept in clean, sealed containers to maintain hygiene.

Additionally, the city urges residents to keep taps closed during the water shutdown to prevent potential water damage when the supply is restored. After service resumes, water may appear discoloured due to trapped air in the pipes, but this will clear up once the water settles.

Importance of Regular Upgrades

The Water and Sanitation Directorate continues to implement maintenance and upgrades as part of its strategy to address unaccounted-for water losses and enhance service delivery. While every effort is made to minimise disruption, some repairs may take longer than expected.
