WATCH: Simon’s town FIRE still raging – here is latest

The fire that broke out on the mountain slopes in Simon’s Town was still raging late on Tuesday evening. Watch the video here.

The fire is still burning on the mountain above Simon’s town.

The fire was reported just after 07:00 on Tuesday morning. Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) said it dispatched crews and aerial resources on Tuesday morning.

The fire that broke out on the mountain slopes in Simon’s Town on Tuesday morning was approaching properties in the suburb.

THE FIRE BROKE OUT ON TUESDAY MORNING

More than 80 firefighters battling the blaze, and at least three helicopters.

On Tuesday evening, Ward councillor Simon Liell-Cock said the fire is still burning on the mountain.

TEAMS REMAINED ON SITE OVERNIGHT TO DEAL WITH FLARE-UPS

According to reports, teams remained on site overnight to deal with flare-ups.

It is believed the wind was dropping and is forecast to drop further during the evening.

RESIDENTS WERE ACCOMMODATED IN THE TOWN HALL DUE TO SMOKE PROBLEM

Meanwhile, Happy Valley residents are currently being accommodated in the town hall due to the smoke problem.

However, the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre said there had been no calls to evacuate residents yet.

NO CALLS YET TO EVACUATE RESIDENTS YET

On Tuesday at Red Hill Road, entry to the main road leading into Simon’s Town was closed to traffic, with access restricted to residents only.
