In the meantime African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Gwede Mantashe has said the message to the ANC caucus is: “Today is not about Zuma; today is about the ANC!”
This contradicts the message given by the Speaker yesterday, when announcing that a Secret Ballot will be used. She said that according to the Constitution members should vote with their conscience for the people they represent, and not for their party. She said that this vote is about holding the President accountable for his actions.
Mantashe said that today’s motion has been engineered by the opposition as a way to oust the ANC. Zuma himself has quoted a Zulu proverb in the past that the best way to kill a snake is to strike its head… and that that is what the opposition parties are doing in their call for him to be removed.
Mantashe said: “This is not about Zuma it’s about the ANC government. It’s about removing the ANC from power in an undemocratic way.”
One Twitter user said: “I need a Gwede Mantashe in my life. Who will stand by me in wrong doing #NoConfidence…”

BREAKING: Gwede Mantashe tells @AnnikaLarsen1 that ANC MPs "have a responsibility to defend the ANC".
Contradicting what Concourt said.
