Two police officers attached to the Beitbridge Border Post are expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo, on Wednesday 19 July 2023, facing charges of corruption after they allegedly demanded R2000 bribe in order to release a traffic register certificate.

The two were arrested on Monday, 17 July.

TWO POLICE OFFICERS ARRESTED FOR CORRUPTION

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Limpopo, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said a complainant contacted local police alerting them about the two officers who were demanding a R2000 bribe in order to release his traffic register certificate. The matter was immediately handed over to the Provincial Anti-Corruption Team for further investigations.

Ledwaba said an operation was conducted where the two police officers were arrested after receiving trap money and it was found in possession of the suspects. The traffic register certificate was also found in possession of one of the suspects.

Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said the arrest of the members should send a clear message that the SAPS in this Province does not tolerate any form of criminality, regardless of who is the perpetrator.

“Our members are hard on the ground through operation KuKula, showing passion and loyalty about the Police Services. Those who fall into a trap we will ensure that decisive steps are taken,” she said.

The suspects aged 32 and 47 are scheduled to make their first court appearance in the Musina Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Wednesday 19 July 2023, facing charges of corruption.
