The City of Tshwane is advising residents and businesses to prepare for possible water disruptions on Thursday, 3 April, as essential maintenance is carried out along Rosalyn Avenue in Waterkloof Glen.

The interruption, which will affect the water network from 8:00 to 16:00, aims to improve infrastructure but may result in temporary water shortages in various areas.

Areas impacted by water disruptions

Residents and businesses in Ashley Gardens, De Beer, and parts of Newlands and Waterkloof Glen are expected to experience water supply issues. In addition, locations such as Hatfield Christian Church, Hatfield Christian School, Kingswood Village, and Summit Place may also face disruptions during the maintenance window.

“The City of Tshwane apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may be caused as a result of the above-mentioned work,” the municipality stated in a recent notice.

Emphasising water conservation

In light of the upcoming water interruption and ongoing concerns about water usage, the City of Tshwane has issued a call for residents to adopt water-saving practices. The city highlighted the importance of reducing water consumption every day, regardless of scheduled maintenance.

Specifically, the municipality urges citizens to avoid using hosepipes or sprinklers for irrigation between 6:00 and 18:00, and to refrain from washing vehicles with hosepipes or filling swimming pools during these hours.

“Residents should report water leaks, burst pipes and all incidents where water is wasted,” the city emphasized, encouraging everyone to take action in reducing unnecessary water consumption.

Practical tips to reduce water usage

To help promote sustainable water use, Tshwane residents are encouraged to implement simple measures like installing low-flow showerheads and dual-flush toilets, which can significantly lower water consumption. Additionally, planting indigenous or drought-resistant plants, sweeping driveways rather than hosing them down, and collecting rainwater for reuse can all contribute to more efficient water use.

Other straightforward tips include covering swimming pools to minimize evaporation and turning off taps while brushing teeth—small actions that collectively make a big difference in conserving this vital resource.
