As reported earlier today, South African comedian Trevor Noah has been nominated for a Grammy Award. Since announcing the exciting news, Trevor has posted another heartfelt message on social media… which could even be his speech should he win!
The South African expat – who now lives in New York – has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Comedy Album category.
The Daily Show host has been nominated for his stand-up special Son of Patricia (which refer to Trevor’s mom Patricia) and will go up against other international celebrities who happen to be his idols and friends.
Trevor said: “Today I woke up to the news that I’ve been nominated for a Grammy award. A GRAMMY AWARD!!! And just when I thought the feeling couldn’t get any better I saw the other names in my category and I almost cried.”
He then paid tribute to each of the other nominees in the Best Comedy Album category, saying:
“Dave Chappelle – my mentor and friend. A legend who pushes me to be funnier every time I’m on stage.
“Ellen DeGeneres – my watch buddy and talk show/stand up idol.
“Aziz Ansari – My comedy cellar comrade. Where we would work our ideas every night.
“Jim Gaffigan – A comedy genius who has made me cry laughing every time I’ve watched him on stage and every time we’ve hung out off stage!”
And he saved the best tribute for last. Filled with gratitude, Trevor said:
“What a life I’ve been blessed enough to live. Thank you mom❤️.”
It is his mom Patricia after whom his nominated comedy special – Son of Patrica – is named. Readers of Trevor’s book “Born a Crime: Stories of Growing Up in South Africa” will know Patricia well – the autobiography is virtually an ode to his hard-working mother.
The awards show will be held on 26 January 2020. – SAnews.gov.za
