Toll fee increase 2025: What you’ll pay more on South African roads
Toll fees are on the rise and new costs will kick in from 1 March 2025. Here’s how much you’ll be paying to drive along toll routes in SA.
Toll fees to take a toll on your wallet
The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) recently announced that a hike on toll fees would kick in from 1 March 2025.
According to BusinessTech, the tariffs will increase by 4.84%, a little less than last year’s 6.25% hike.
Vusi Mona, SANRAL’s General Manager for Communications and Marketing, revealed that toll fees are necessary to maintain, operate and improve toll roads.
“The funds go a long way towards ensuring that SANRAL fulfils its mandate of delivering quality road infrastructure that adds value to the lives of South African citizens,” Mona said as per BusinessTech.
“SANRAL is empathetic to the South African public, considering the current state of the economy. However, it is equally important to introduce the adjustments to ensure that the agency continues to deliver safe and quality roads to the benefit of all road users,” Mona added.
New fees and routes
The tables below indicate toll fee hikes along some major routes in South Africa, while other routes, including the N1, N2, N3, N4, N17 and regional (R) routes, and their prices can be found here.
Please note:
- Class 1: Light vehicles – with or without a trailer, including motorcycles, motor tricycles and motor cars.
- Class 2: Medium-heavy – heavy vehicles with two axles.
- Class 3: Large heavy vehicles – heavy vehicles with three or four axles.
- Class 4: Extra large heavy vehicles – heavy vehicles with five or more axles.
