The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for thunderstorms in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on Wednesday, 28 June. Parts of the province were walloped by inclement weather on Tuesday.
The warning key indicates that the thunderstorms may result in a high likelihood of minor weather-based impacts.

WARNING FOR THUNDERSTORMS
Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected over southern KZN on Wednesday.

“Some areas around Ugu and [the] eThekwini District municipalities have already received significant amounts of rain in the past 24 hours, and more rain is still expected today, which may lead to localised flooding,” said the weather service.

THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- Localised flooding of vulnerable formal and informal settlements and low-lying roads and bridges is possible.
- Difficult driving conditions on dirt roads.
- Minor vehicle accidents are possible due to poor visibility and slippery roads.
- Localised damage to mud-based houses.
