The world’s longest zipline has opened in the Overberg
SA Forest Adventures has introduced the K3 zipline, the world’s longest, situated just outside Caledon in the Western Cape.
Following years of preparation, SA Forest Adventures has unveiled the world’s longest zipline, K3, located near Caledon in the Western Cape. Notably, it exceeds the previous record-holder, Jais Flight in the UAE, by almost 400 meters.
Safety measures of the K3 zipline
SA Forest Adventures has conducted thorough planning and testing over several years. They recently concluded successful test flights before announcing that K3 is now ready to welcome guests. An independent engineer officially signed off the zipline to approve it, as reported by The Newspaper.
It is important to note that, for safety reasons, participants must weigh between 60kg and 120kg.
Staff members will not allow the following persons to participate:
- Anyone who has consumed alcohol or is suspected to be intoxicated in any way
- Pregnant women
- People with heart conditions or physical disabilities
What adrenaline enthusiasts can expect
The K3 zipline is the world’s longest zipline, offering an adrenaline-pumping ride for those willing to take on the adventure. It spans 3.2 kilometres.
The experience begins with a 7km 4×4 journey up the mountain before participants take flight on the K3 zipline. Once at the peak of the mountain, a short but steep hike will lead you to the zipline departure platform.
A guide will inform everyone of the safety aspects of the zipline before taking one person at a time to send them down the cable. The group size determines the waiting time at the top of the mountain.
There are only 24 spots available per day during the opening month. The entire adventure, including the zipline and the mountain ride takes approximately one hour.
The cost is R1800 per person.
Depending on participants’ weight, the speed descending from the mountain peak could reach up to 120 km per hour. After about the first 200 metres the ground is approximately 500 metres below you.
The location
The K3 zipline is a few kilometres outside Caledon, a town in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. It is just over an hour’s drive from Cape Town.
Clinton Lerm, the visionary behind SA Forest Adventures, spent years scouting for the perfect location. After a meticulous search, the ideal spot was found, offering both logistical advantages and beautiful scenery.
The K3 zipline is expected to significantly boost adventure tourism in the Cape Overberg region.
