Thabo Bester has kicked up a fuss in court after he claims he was denied his right to wear his own clothes, no doubt designer labels.

The flashy criminal – who has previously donned Burberry and Louis Vuitton in court – made his grievances known through his legal representation.

Thabo, his co-accused Nandipha Magudumana, and seven others will return to court on 5 June 2024 for a pre-trial conference.

THABO BESTER APPEARS ANGRY AFTER BEING ‘DENIED’ OWN CLOTHES

On Wednesday, 21 February, Nandipha Magudumana and Thabo Bester made their first court appearance in 2024 at the Free State High Court.

However, Bester, who is known for his luxury lifestyle – stunned court spectators when he appeared in regular clothing.

According to his legal representative, Mohamed Seedat, Bester was “denied” the right to choose his own clothes ahead of his appearance.

Seedat told the court: “My client has been denied access to his own clothing, even for purposes of coming to this court.

“My client is being directed where he is told to only wear what the prison officials tell him to.”

A furious Thabo Bester was seen waving his hand when state prosecutor Amanda Bester (no relation) claimed he should be wearing an orange overall as a sentenced prisoner.

He also shook his head when the prosecutor claimed that “he can’t wear what he wants.”

Bester is currently doing a life imprisonment sentence for the 2011 rape and murder of his model girlfriend, Nomfundo Tyhulu.

WHAT DOES CORRECTIONAL SERVICES SAY?

While Thabo Bester fights for his right to wear his designer brands, it appears the law is on his side.

Last year, Correctional Services Singabakho Nxumalo claimed that everything was above board for Bester when it came to his wardrobe.

He told 947’s Thando Thabethe: “Inmates in South Africa who appear in court do so with civilian clothing. You are allowed to wear your private clothes, and then you change thereafter to the offender uniform”.
