Table Mountain hiking trails get new security patrol
After a recent spate of crime in the area, Table Mountain hiking trails are now patrolled by a private security company.
Safer hiking on Table Mountain
A newly launched initiative will now see the Cobras Mountain Protection Team patrolling some of Cape Town’s most famous hiking routes on Table Mountain.
According to IOL, the new security team have actively patrolled routes around Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, and Camps Bay for the past two months.
And their efforts has already seen no violent crime incidents being reported on the routes they cover.
The security team is privately funded, developed in partnership with Atlantic Seaboard and City Bowl businesses, along with private individuals who want a safer Table Mountain.
“Cape Town’s unique offering of world-class outdoor spaces is a treasure that we are committed to safeguarding as part of our ongoing urban interventions,” Jacques van Embden, CEO of Blok said as per IOL.
“By increasing the presence of patrols, together with the Cobras Mountain Protection Team, we aim to enhance the safety of everyone enjoying these beautiful trails.” he added.
Hike listed as one of the world’s most congested
The Table Mountain hike was also recently listed as one of the world’s most congested when it comes to foot traffic.
As per adventure tour operator Explore Worldwide, who conducted a study to find which of the world’s popular hikes are the most congested, Table Mountain hike was found to be South Africa’s busiest hike.
The famous mountain hike was also the world’s 7th most crowded, making the top 10 with 1 189 Instagram posts per kilometre of trail.
