Table Mountain Aerial Cableway up and running

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) today announced the reopening of services on Cape Town’s popular mountain.

According to media release from the TMACC the Lower Station was a buzz of activity as visitors flocked to the Cableway this morning, 2 September.

“Over a million tourists visit the Cableway each year, and they have sold 7000 tickets just for today,” Western Cape Premier Alan Winde remarked.

“We’ve replaced the track ropes, overhauled the hanging and running gear, and adhered to strict Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications,” said Selma Hercules, Executive Director of TMACC said, adding that it was all part of their ongoing commitment to safety, quality, and excellence.

Hercules added that since it was Tourism Month in South Africa, it was their chance to shine.

“We invite both locals and international visitors to rediscover the breathtaking beauty of Table Mountain and enjoy the best views in the city from our state-of-the-art Cableway.” she said.

Top tips from TMACC before your visit

To ensure visitors have a seamless as possible experience, the TMACC team revealed some top tips:

  • Buy your tickets online: Save money by purchasing your tickets online. Online tickets are valid for 7 days and are extendable in case you need to change the date of your visit and refundable in case of inclement weather.
  • Tafelberg road access: With ongoing roadworks on Tafelberg Road, it’s recommend that you Park and Ride, and use the free shuttle service that runs from the Lower Kloof Nek parking to the Lower Station.
  • Skip the queue: Opt for a Fast Track ticket to bypass the wait and spend more time soaking in the views.
  • Delicious new eats and treats: Food and beverage outlets have been refreshed with new offerings, including vegan options, kiddies’ meals, and gourmet milkshakes.
  • Shop at the Top: Find unique, locally sourced souvenirs at the Shop at the Top, available in-store and online.
  • Operating times: From 1 September to 14 December, the first car ascends at 8:30 AM, with the last ride up at 6:00 PM.

The Cableway Company also added that South Africans who celebrated their birthdays during the annual maintenance period have until 30 September 2024 to collect their free Cableway birthday ticket at the Lower Station ticket office after presenting a valid ID.
