Suspects tied to attempted murder of advocate in Shauwn Mkhize tax case arrested
Advocate Coreth Naude, representing SARS in a tax inquiry involving Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt.
KwaZulu-Natal police have made a breakthrough when they arrested two suspects who are allegedly linked to the attempted murder of advocate Coreth Naude who was acting on behalf of the South African Revenue Services (SARS) in a tax inquiry involving businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize.
In July, Naude was shot three times while arriving at her hotel at the Gateway Shopping Mall in Umhlanga, Durban.
SUSPECTS ALLEGEDLY LINKED TO THE ATTEMPTED MURDER OF ADVOCATE IN SHAUWN MKHIZE’S TAX INQUIRY ARRESTED
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said on the day, advocate Naude was driving into the hotel when she was ambushed by two armed men who opened fire at her.
The advocate managed to drive inside the hotel where she received emergency medical attention before she was rushed to hospital. The suspects fled from the scene in a silver Toyota Corolla.
Netshiunda said the case was assigned to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime: Murder and Robbery Unit which hit the ground running in search of clues and possible leads.
“Investigations led the investigating team to the Western Cape Province and on Tuesday, 17 December 2024, two suspects, aged 28 and 29 years old were arrested in Mitchells Plain and Milnerton respectively.
“The suspects will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 December 2024 facing a charge of attempted murder,” Netshiunda said.
ATTEMPTED MURDER OF CORETH NAUDE CONDEMNED
Following the incident, SARS commissioner Edward Kieswetter said the attempted murder of Coreth Naude was intended to intimidate officers of the court into abandoning the vital work they’re performing in furtherance of the country’s legal system.
Keiswetter condemned the attempted assassination, saying the shocking act undermines the authority of the State.
He said such acts and those who perpetrate them must be resisted and defeated by everyone working together to improve South Africa and ensure that none is above the law.
