State Capture Hearings to Resume by July

The Zondo commission of enquiry into state capture will resume hearings later this month or early in July, according to Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo. The commission itself would resume work next week.

During a virtual briefing today, after the commission suspended work during the lockdown, Zondo said, “With the cooperation of the executive there is no reason why we cannot resume the hearings in the last week of June or the first week of July.”

Zondo said the investigations and legal teams were busy during the lockdown.

Under Level 3, not everything was resolved regarding interprovincial travel for public hearings. Zondo said he would be allowed to travel to Johannesburg from Durban soon, as would other judges, advocates and attorneys.

On 15 June the personnel of the commission would resume work, he said, while those who could would work remotely.
