Stabilo UK has responded to Bic South Africa’s faux pas with a brilliant advert that says it all. For Women’s Day, Bic SA posted an image celebrating the occasion with a photo of a woman in an office suit accompanied by the words: “Look like a girl, Act like a lady, Think like a man, Work like a boss.”
Complaints poured in about the insulting words that implied women should invest in their appearance to look as young as possible in order to be attractive, whilst needing to emulate men in order to be viewed as successful.
The picture was removed and on Tuesday, Bic SA posted their apology:
“Hi everyone. Let’s start out by saying we’re incredibly sorry for offending everybody – that was never our intention, but we completely understand where we’ve gone wrong. This post should never have gone out. The feedback you have given us will help us ensure that something like this will never happen again, and we appreciate that.”
The following day, Wednesday, Stabilo UK, posted the following image, with the words:
“Sorry to highlight your mistake #Bic, but we thought this was more appropriate… #HappyWomensDay”
Seems clear who’s boss!
