Nyakane spent as many as six years with the Bulls, playing in nearly 100 games across all competitions before heading to France, while he has become a mainstay in the Bok squad over the last few years.

In July, the Springboks will take part in a shortened one-round Rugby Championship, and it shouldn’t be forgotten how South Africa won this tournament in 2019 before going on to clinch the Webb Ellis Cup that year.
The importance of building confidence and momentum in the Rugby Championship should not be underestimated, while the Springboks have also agreed to three interesting World Cup warm-up matches.

On 5 August, the Boks will take on Argentina at a venue in the South American country that’s still to be confirmed, while soon after they will then travel to the northern hemisphere to face Wales in Cardiff (19 August) and then New Zealand in a blockbuster London fixture (25 August).

It’s expected that the Springboks will then move over to their team base in France to begin their official build-up to their World Cup opener against Scotland on 10 September. Also in their pool, South Africa will face Romania, Ireland and Tonga.
These are the 10 confirmed fixtures for the Springboks to date, but of course they will be hoping to progress through to the final on 28 October in Paris. All in all, it means the team could be away from home for the better part of three months.
Springboks coach Jacques Nienaber said the national coaches have been hard at work with their planning for the international season where they will look to build on an encouraging 2022 season.
“The coaches have hit the ground running this year and we’ll continue to put in the hard yards as we attempt to ensure that we leave no stone unturned before the World Cup. We are on course in terms of finalising our planning for the season and we are excited about returning to the training field.”
An announcement on the venues of the Tests in New Zealand and Argentina, as well as the Boks’ training camps will be made in due course.
