Forbes’ list of the world’s best employers

How Forbes compiles the list

Forbes, in collaboration with the market research company Statista, created this list by surveying over 300 000 employees from more than 50 countries.

Only multinational corporations that have at least 1 000 workers and operate in at least two of the six global regions – Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America, and Oceania – formed part of the research.

Participants had to indicate whether they would recommend their company to others to work there. They also evaluated it based on factors like salary, opportunities for talent development, and options for remote work.

Additionally, respondents could rate companies they were familiar with through their own experiences or through others who were employed there.

Increasing uncertainty among employees

Various factors contribute to employees feeling uncertain about their future in the labour market. People are increasingly concerned about the rapid evolution of generative AI in the workplace. Also, the growing cost of living is a reality that is a concern to many employees.

The latest annual Gallup State of the Global Workplace Report showed that 32% of employees in South Africa experience high levels of stress, while 15% experience daily anger. The 2024 report focussed particularly on the role of work in employee mental health and well-being.

Of the respondents in the Gallup survey, 56% said that they are actively seeking another job.
