The 2024 Times Higher Education subject rankings have spotlighted South African universities, recognizing their remarkable global performance in higher education.
Among the 12 South African universities in the 11 subject categories, these three institutions stand out as academic leaders across various fields.

TOP THREE SOUTH AFRICAN UNIVERSITIES THAT RANKED WELL GLOBALLY
University of Cape Town’s Dominance
The University of Cape Town (UCT) emerges as the frontrunner, seizing the top position in South Africa in an impressive six subject categories.
Even more remarkable is its presence within the global top 100 for three critical fields: Education, Clinical and Health Studies, and Social Sciences, according to Business Tech.

University of Pretoria’s Global Ranking in Law
In the global arena, the University of Pretoria has made a significant impact by being the only South African institution to break into the top 100, ranking an impressive 65th worldwide in the field of Law.
University of Johannesburg’s Notable Triumphs
The University of Johannesburg (UJ) has demonstrated its excellence by surpassing UCT in three subjects: Business and Economics, Computer Science, and Engineering.
Additionally, it shares a prestigious ranking range with UCT in the field of Physical Sciences.
