According to relocation experts at 1st Move International, South Africa has emerged as one of the top 10 destinations UK residents are keen to relocate to.

US in first position

The US tops the list, with one of the reasons given by 1st Move International being its diversity and abundance of opportunities. Many people find that relocating to the US is not dependent on what stage of life you are at, i.e. it is suitable for any stage of life, from children in school to businesspeople. Additionally, the US offers a wide range of cultural experiences, educational institutions, and career prospects, making it an attractive destination for individuals and families alike.

Another advantage of the US as a relocation destination for Britons is, of course, the lack of a language barrier. This is most likely a strong motivator for many of the countries on the top 10 list.

“Also, the lack of a language barrier for UK residents makes the transition more manageable.”

Canada in top spot globally

Interestingly, Canada is the top destination globally for people wanting to relocate, while Australia remains in second position worldwide.

Australia continues to attract skilled expats with its job opportunities and also a high standard of living. Markedly, the combination of a relaxed lifestyle, warm climate, and access to a thriving job market makes Australia a top destination to relocate to worldwide. In 2023, the number of Australia’s residents born overseas made up 30% of its population.

Canada is actively recruiting skilled professionals to close the gaps in their formal sector and offering appealing salaries, making it even more appealing as a destination to relocate to.

According to Canada’s official statistics office, more than 14 000 South Africans have successfully received permanent residence in the country since 2015. Canada is very appealing to many people who want to relocate because of factors such as its education system, quality of life, and safety.
