The latest figures from the Television Audience Measurement (TAM) by the Broadcasting Research Council of South Africa (BRCSA) reveal that Scandal! is the third-most-watched soapie, followed by SABC1’s soapie Generations: The Legacy, and Skeem Saam is the second most-watched soapie after Uzalo.

‘SKEEM SAAM’ SCORES SECOND POSITION
The May 2023 figures also reveal that Uzalo scored 5 million viewership, followed by Skeem Saam with 4.7 million, Scandal! received 4.6 million while Generations: The Legacy sits on 4.5 million.
The May viewing figures also reveal that e.tv’s House of Zwide received 3.7 million viewership, while the channel’s lates telenovela Isitha: The Enemy received 2 million followed by Smoke and Mirrors with 1.8 million and Nikiwe with 1.7 million.
SABC2’s long-running soapie Muvhango has 1.3 million viewership, followed by SABC2’s Afrikaans soapie 7de Laan with 987k viewership, and Mzansi Magic’s cancelled telenovela Gomora is sitting on 780k.

‘SCANDAL!’ CURRENT STORYLINE, ‘GENERATIONS’ DEPARTURE
Generations: The Legacy and Morula Pictures recently bid farewell to fan-favourite actor Musa Ngema who played the role of Mazwi Moroka for nine years.
Sunday World reported that the show in a statement confirmed his departure and said his contract came to an end in March this year.
“Over the years Musa has been given many story challenges that have allowed him to showcase his talent as an actor. He has done a fantastic job of portraying the character, and we are grateful for his dedication and commitment to the role and we thank him for his contribution and wish him well,” reads the statement.
Scandal!’s fan-favourite character Jojo (Melusi Mbele) attempted to kill his son’s kidnapper Thabang but released him when he realised that he might end up in jail.
