Siya Kolisi messaged Rachel privately while he was in another relationship
Springboks captain Siya Kolisi revealed that he first reached out to his now-wife Rachel through DMs while he was still seeing someone else.
Siya Kolisi openly admitted that he pursued his now-wife, Rachel, while he was still involved in a relationship with someone else.
The Springboks caption shared the confession in his 2023 autobiography, Rise.
The couple announced their separation this week after eight years of marriage.

On social media, Rachel and Siya Kolisi’s divorce announcement – and what could possibly have led to it – have been making headlines.
Many have speculated that the Springboks captain may have cheated on Rachel, the mother of his two children.
One tweep even shared screenshots of Siya’s autobiography Rise, where he confessed to heavy drinking, frequenting strip clubs, and reckless spending.
In another passage, Siya admitted to sliding into Rachel’s DMs after meeting her with a group of pals in 2012. In fact, the star – who had just signed to the Stormers – had met his future wife, whilst accompanied by his girlfriend.
“It was 19 May 2012…I went to Gino’s [restaurant] with my girlfriend at the time, some of the Waratah’s boys, and the cousin of a woman named Rachel Smith.
“She didnt think I was anything special. In fact, she thought I was quite rude.
“But there was something about her which really got to me…it was the way she carried herself, the sense that here was someone special, and not like other women”.
Despite dating someone else, Siya Kolisi decided to pursue a relationship with Rachel.
He continued: “I sent her [Rachel] a Facebook message not long after that, and we began chatting. At first, it was just as friends. I was in a relationship at the time, even though it was on and off and not particularly serious.
“I was young, still 20, and full of it. I loved rugby, I loved drinking, and I loved girls.
SLIDING INTO DMS
It’s not the first time Siya Kolisi and social media DMs have made headlines.
In 2019, his wife Rachel named and shamed a Cape Town woman she accused of “sliding” into her husband’s DMs.
“Just wondering what her a** is doing in my husband’s DMs?” Rachel shared alongside a pic of the woman wearing a thong. She added: “In case you haven’t heard, I don’t like being disrespected.”
According to the woman – fitness model Marike Botha – Rachel got it all wrong and jumped to the wrong conclusion.
She shared in a series of Instagram Stories. “Siya Kolisi slid into my DM’s. Sends me the post that I posted on IG. His wife sees this and makes it look like I’m sending him my a**. The post is on my IG!”.
According to Marike, Siya approached her about wearing one of his favourite swimwear and underwear brands, Franklees.
Marike then demanded an apology from Rachel after she claimed she was “slut-shamed” by the public. She also alleged that she had received alarming threats and had to utilise a bodyguard.
Rachel – who deleted her Twitter account and temporarily disabled her Instagram – did not respond to social media storm.
