The second Voter Registration Weekend for the 2024 National and Provincial Elections began on a promising note, with the Electoral Commission reporting a remarkable 99 percent of voting stations commencing operations by 8:00 on the second day.

The remaining locations opened their doors before 8:30, ensuring a seamless start to the registration process across the nation.

SECOND VOTER REGISTRATION WEEKEND STATS

At the close of Day One, the Electoral Commission recorded more than half a million registrations at the 23 303 voting stations scattered throughout the country.

As the weekend progressed, the populace demonstrated enthusiasm and civic responsibility, with voting stations documenting a staggering 564 715 registration transactions by 13:00 on Sunday.

“At 13:00 today, a total of 564 715 registration transactions had been recorded at voting stations,” said IEC.

LEADING AGE GROUP WITH REGISTRATIONS

Breaking down the numbers, the age group of 30-39 emerged as the leading demographic, contributing significantly with 122 631 registrations.

This trend highlights the active engagement of the youth and older youth in shaping the democratic landscape of the nation.

Buoyed by the positive momentum, the Electoral Commission maintains a sense of optimism. Regarding the overall success of the upcoming elections.
