Second Chance Matric Programme: Closing this Friday in Western Cape
Western Cape Education Department urges learners to register for Second Chance Matric Support Programme by 9 February.
The Western Cape Education Department is urging all learners seeking to register for the Second Chance Matric Support Programme to do so before the closing date of 9 February.
This initiative targets individuals who did not meet the requirements to pass the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or the extended Senior Certificate (SC) examinations, as well as those looking to improve their results.

IMPORTANCE OF THE SECOND CHANCE MATRIC PROGRAMME
Bronagh Hammond, spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department, emphasised the importance of seizing this opportunity. “This is a wonderful opportunity to obtain one’s NSC and it should not be missed,” Hammond stated.
Hammond highlighted the benefits of registering early, citing the fresh recollection of exam content among candidates.

Approximately 30% of candidates in the Western Cape who did not pass require one additional subject to pass, while about 20% need two subjects, according to Hammond.
To aid in exam preparation, candidates can access various resources on the department’s website, including study guides, video tutorials, examination papers, and memos.

WHAT ELSE THE PROGRAMME OFFERS?
Additionally, the programme offers free tutoring classes for private candidates registered to write the May/June examinations. These classes cover a range of subjects such as Afrikaans First Additional Language, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences.
Second Chance Matric Support Centres have been established in selected areas across the province, offering free tuition to all participants. Registration for the programme is currently underway, with information on registration and tutoring venues available on the department’s website.
Interested learners can access registration forms on the WCED website. The programme will commence in early March 2024.
