Sea Point promenade buildings get makeover
Ablution buildings along the Sea Point promenade have undergone a funky transformation, as local artists recently collaborated to paint the once-ordinary buildings in an open-air art exhibit for the public.
According to Travel News, property developer Blok teamed up with local artist agency SJ Artists in a project intent on elevating public spaces in Cape Town’s popular landmarks. The project also aims to provide a platform for Cape Town’s artists.
Each of the murals are accompanied by an informative plaque with information about the artists and their work.
“In collaboration with @sj_artists_ we have brought together three exceptional artists, each contributing their unique style, to create a diverse visual experience on the Sea Point promenade, that captures the essence of our city’s artistic spirit” Blok said in an Instagam post.
Murals
The first mural was painted by artist Mika Revell, an Asian-American artist known for her political satire, feminism and historical art references.
“Her mural Impossible City, inspired by M.C. Escher, challenges perceptions of urban spaces & prompts viewers to reconsider conventional notions of home & community.” Blok continued on Instagram.

Another mural was painted by Russell Abrahams, a Cape Town illustrator. His mural ‘Ocean Daze’ invites viewers into a lively seaside scene, complete with seven playful hidden faces waiting to be discovered. Take a look:
