School calendar: When does the third school term end?

As the school year in South Africa unfolds, students, parents, and educators eagerly await the end of the third school term.
SCHOOL CALENDAR: WHEN DOES THE THIRD SCHOOL TERM END?
It’s that time of year when pencils are getting shorter, backpacks are a bit more worn, and everyone is counting down the days to the well-deserved break.

So, let’s take a closer look at when the third school term is coming to a close and what’s in store for the rest of the academic calendar.

DATES FOR THE 2023 SCHOOL TERMS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Inland schools:
- Term 1: 11 January to 24 March – Complete
- Term 2: 12 April to 23 June – Complete
- Term 3: 18 July to 29 September
- Term 4: 10 October to 13 December
Coastal schools:
- Term 1: 18 January to 31 March – Complete
- Term 2: 12 April to 23 June – Complete
- Term 3: 18 July to 29 September
- Term 4: 10 October to 13 December
STUDENTS CAN START LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FOURTH AND FINAL TERM
As the third term comes to a close, students can start looking forward to the fourth and final term of the school year. This term, which usually spans from October to December, brings its own set of challenges and excitement.

The 2023 school year comprises 199 school days across the four terms, with 32 days for school holidays and eight public holidays.
Meanwhile, South Africa will have 14 public holidays in 2023, including an additional two days off to celebrate public holidays which fall over a weekend.
