LAUGH OUT LOUD | JOKE OF THE DAY
The Department of Basic Education’s 2023 school calendar shows the year will comprise of 199 school days across four terms, with 32 days set aside for school holidays and eight public holidays in between.

In a change from previous years, all schools – both inland and at the coast – will break up on Friday, 23 June.
There is no longer a week’s difference in breaking up and returning to school for the third term as in previous years.
To note: Inland provinces are the Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West, while the coastal provinces are the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Northern Cape and Western Cape.

Government schools will begin the third term on Tuesday, 18 July.
The third will comprise 52 total school days.

DATES FOR THE SCHOOL TERMS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Inland schools
- Term 1: 11 January to 24 March
- Term 2: 12 April to 23 June
- Term 3: 18 July to 29 September
- Term 4: 10 October to 13 December
Coastal schools
- Term 1: 18 January to 31 March
- Term 2: 12 April to 23 June
- Term 3: 18 July to 29 September
- Term 4: 10 October to 13 December
