SASSA: R350-SRD grant period increased

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has just released their payment dates for September. There’s more good news this year for all social grant recipients: social grant amounts have been said to increase for the year, and the R350-SRD grant will be valid until 2024.

Here’s everything to know about the announcements, and how grants should increase.
HOW MUCH WILL SASSA GRANTS INCREASE BY?
According to the South African Government News Agency, social grants are set to increase during 2023. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced the increases as follows:
Care dependency grants: increased to R2085
Child support grants: increased to R505
Disability grants: increased to R2085
Foster care grant: increased to R1125
Grant-in-aid: increased to R505
Old age grant: increased to R2085
Old age grant (over 75) increased to: increased to R2105
War veterans grant: increased to R2105
The press release confirms that increases are thanks to “increases in the number of recipients and the value of grants”.
R350 SRD GRANT EXTENDED
The South African Social Security Agency has also announced an extension for the R350-SRD grant.

The Social Relief of Distress grant has been extended: the SASSA grant will now be valid until at least 2024. As long as you pass the means test, you should continue to receive your grant.

HOW TO APPEAL IF REJECTED
If your R350-grant application has been rejected, there is an answer.

Appeals for “Rejected” status can be made through the appeals link on the SASSA website.
All appeals are assessed, and if successful, status will change to “Approved”.
