SASSA offices in Mpumalanga closed due to alleged witchcraft
A senior employee allegedly came with a sangoma who performed rituals in various work stations in SASSA offices in Mpumalanga.
SASSA offices in Mkhondo Municipality (previously known as Piet Retief), Mpumalanga, have been closed for two weeks as workers fear for their lives after a sangoma was captured on CCTV performing a ritual in various work stations.
SASSA spokesperson in Mpumalanga Senzeni Ngubeni confirmed the incident.
SASSA OFFICES IN MPUMALANGA CLOSED FOR TWO WEEKS
In an interview with SAfm, Ngubeni said the incident happened earlier in April (two weeks ago).
Ngubeni said the matter is still under investigation. However, they suspect two employees are responsible for bringing the sangoma to the offices.
The two workers have already been suspended, and the matter will undergo a disciplinary process.
“Our workers feel that they are not safe, and they feel that they cannot work in such an environment. We then had to devise a plan to serve the public,” Ngubeni said.
The spokesperson said service delivery has been impacted for the past two weeks as officials fear for their lives and some have fallen sick.
“From today (Monday), we will serve the public in an alternative place. The local municipality offered us a hall, and we have already set it up there. Security is also there to ensure our staff is safe,” he said.
In addition, Ngubeni said they will undertake a disciplinary process as two employees have already been suspended as the investigation unfolds.
