The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) advises old age grant beneficiaries to ignore recent false information about extra payments.

The false information claims, “Sassa is currently registering and paying all SASSA recipients above the age of 75 an extra R520 or so.” This statement is untrue and does not originate from the agency.

SASSA accurate notification procedures

SASSA has previously emphasised the importance of beneficiaries reading official notification letters. These notifications may inform recipients about changes that could affect their social grants. SASSA stresses the need for accurate addresses to ensure timely receipt of such critical information.

“It is the responsibility of a social grant beneficiary to notify the agency about any changes in their circumstances, including marital status, financial, or medical situations,” agency officials stated.

Failure to cooperate during grant reviews, engaging in fraudulent activities, or not submitting required documents could result in the suspension of social grants. The agency advises beneficiaries to report any changes as soon as possible to avoid this.

Suspension and restoration of grants

In cases where a grant is suspended, beneficiaries must lodge an application for restoration within 30 days of suspension. Suspensions may occur due to failure to collect the grant for more than three consecutive months or failing to undergo a required review.

SASSA officials explained, “Restoration of a suspended grant must be requested promptly. This process ensures that those entitled to benefits do not suffer unnecessarily due to administrative issues.”

Current grant payments

Currently, as The South African previously reported beneficiaries aged 60 to 74 receive R2180, while those aged 75 and older are paid R2200. The agency continues to ensure that these payments are made correctly and on time.

In light of this, beneficiaries are encouraged to stay informed through official SASSA channels and verify any suspicious information.
