Now, after the success of the system at the major airports in the country, SARS has now launched the second phase, which includes its implementation at sea ports.

WHAT IS THE SYSTEM ABOUT?

According to details on the SARS website, the Traveller Declaration system allows travellers, including South African citizens and residents, who are leaving or entering South Africa by air to complete and submit an online traveller declaration form to pre-declare goods they have acquired and to pay the applicable taxes upon entering or leaving the country.

The system will also continue on a voluntary basis during the pilot phase until further notice, tourism update reports.
