SANParks gets technical

The South African National Parks (SANParks) is introducing a new technologically advanced system called the Tourism Property Management System (TPMS) that will help facilitate accommodation and activity bookings.

According to SANParks, the new system will be phased in from 1 August, starting with Golden Gate Highlands and Addo Elephant National Parks.

The nationals parks Head of Communications, JP Louw, said in a statement that the new system is a tourism-focused, cohesive, and modern software solution that will enable SANParks to execute its tourism operations more efficiently and effectively.

It will also improve accessibility, streamline booking processes and create opportunity for new revenue channels.

The parks body has been facing several technological challenges that inhibited its operations in the tourism, hospitality, and property management areas.

These challenges are primarily due to constrained and legacy IT systems, disparate data silos, and inaccessibility to critical information.

SANParks then conducted an analysis on the weakness of the organisation’s current systems which confirmed and led to the introduction of the internationally recognised TPMS that can effectively support business processes in the tourism, hospitality, and property management areas.” SANParks said in their statement.

The parks body also warned that the implementation process may disrupt some operations.

Increases fees at Cape region national parks

In other national parks news, visitors to several Cape national parks will now have to fork out a little extra for entry fees, as the parks body has decided to increase tariffs.

The annual conservation tariffs for five parks in the Western Cape increased from 1 November 2023 and will be in effect until 31 October 2024. These parks include:

  • Agulhas National Park,
  • Bontebok National Park,
  • Tankwa Karoo National Park,
  • Table Mountain National Park and
  • West Coast National Park.
