SANParks confirms drowning at Skukuza Kruger National Park

South African National Parks (SANParks) has confirmed the tragic drowning of a contractor at the staff residential swimming pool in Skukuza inside the Kruger National Park.

The incident took place on Tuesday, 3 October 2023 at approximately 17:00.

The incident was reported to the South African Police Services (SAPS) station in Skukuza, who are currently investigating the circumstances around the incident.

The Managing Executive of the Kruger National Park, Oscar Mthimkhulu, extended his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased saying “this is an unfortunate incident, the resident doctor and other first responders were notified and tried all they could to save his life but were unsuccessful. On behalf of the organisation, we extend our sincere condolences to family, colleagues and friends and wish them strength during this difficult period.”

The name of the deceased is being withheld until his next of kin have been notified.
