National Gardens Week in South Africa

National Gardens Week will take place this March, from Monday, 10 March to Sunday, 16 March 2025 – and it’s something all South Africans should look forward to.

As reported by Cape Town Etc, for the first time ever, the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) will be opening the gates of all its national botanical and zoological gardens across the country for the entire National Gardens Week.

This means that all visitors will have free access to experience South Africa’s diverse and stunning gardens.

National Gardens Week has something for everyone, too. Families and kids can enjoy interactive activities designed to inspire a love for nature, while health and wellness enthusiasts can benefit from the fresh air, mindfulness, and gentle exercise that comes with spending time outdoors.

“This year, visitors can look forward to a range of activities, including daily garden tours, plant sales at our various nurseries, exciting educational programs, park runs, yoga sessions, gardening techniques and demonstrations, and an Art in the Park event,” says Nontsikelelo Mpulo, Director of Marketing Communications and Commercialisation at SANBI.

Where can you visit?

According to SANBI, the following gardens will be open for free during the week:
