The South African women’s water polo team suffered another heavy group stage defeat at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

The women’s side went down 24-2 against Italy on Tuesday.

The scores by quarter were 2-1, 7-0, 7-1, 8-0.

The SA women’s side lost by the identical scoreline to Greece in their opening match on Sunday.

The scores by quarter in that match were 7-1, 6-1, 6-0, 5-0.

In two matches to date the SA women’s side have scored four goals while conceding 48.

The SA women’s side will conclude their Group C commitments against Argentina on Thursday at 09:00 (SA time).

They may well fancy their chances against Argentina who have lost 27-1 to Italy and 21-2 to Greece to date.

Meanwhile, the SA men’s side lost 35-10 to Montenegro on Monday.

The scores by quarter were 6-1, 10-0, 9-5, 10-4.

The SA men’s side will next play Serbia on Wednesday at 16:00 (SA time) and will wrap up their Group D commitments against Spain on Friday at 10:30 (SA time).
