Cape Town residents can once again enjoy the facilities at Retreat indoor swimming pool, now that the City has completed all upgrades.
Retreat swimming pool up and running
The City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department has officially reopened the Retreat indoor swimming pool.
According to the City, the swimming pool opened to the public yesterday, 17 October after it was closed in June for critical repairs and maintenance.
Some of these upgrades included:
- A full renovation and overhaul of the filtration system,
- Refurbishment and installation of new heating units,
- Construction of a new baby pool,
- Minor repairs to the main pool include tiling, replacement of missing expansion joints, etc, and
- Replacement of outdated valves on the pool deck.
“The reopening of the Retreat Indoor Swimming Pool is a welcome development for the community, giving residents a revitalised space to relax and enjoy. This facility not only provides a place for recreation, but also fosters community spirit. We look forward to seeing it become a hub of activity once again and encourage everyone to make the most of it,’ said Alderman Shanen Rossouw.
The Retreat indoor swimming pool will be open seven days a week, including public holidays, between 10:00 and 17:00.
Community pools to open from mid-November
The department also revealed that they would start opening community swimming pools in a staggered approach from mid-November.
Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia Van der Ross said that the City’s swimming pool operations were a matter of great interest to the public, as they are among the some of most popular recreation facilities.
“Our Recreation and Parks Department is working to get as many facilities as possible summer-ready, and we ask the public to please bear with us while arrangements are finalised. As opening dates are confirmed, these will be communicated.” Van der Ross said.
“In the meantime, we want to welcome regulars to the Retreat swimming pool. It has been a long haul, but we hope that the upgrades will provide an improved user experience. As with all of our recreational facilities, I also want to encourage our public to help us keep these facilities in tip-top shape, for everyone’s benefit,” she added.
