WHO LED LAST WEEK’S EVENT?

Last week’s event was led by the National Police Commander General Fannie Masemola and Police Minister Bheki Cele. In Gauteng, 23 police officers remained in the field in various incidents of fighting crime and being attacked directly when they were being hunted by a gunman.

Lieutenant General Elias Mawela expressed the pain that caused members of his army to leave their homes to protect the citizens, but ended up not returning to their families.

“We are here today to remember the heroes who remained in the war. It’s sad that in the morning you put on your uniform to protect the country but ended up not returning home because of the conditions you face at work,” he said.

WHAT DID CELE SAY TO POLICE OFFICERS?

The commander also emphasized Cele’s speech that the police should not be afraid to do their job properly and should not hesitate to defend themselves when faced with danger.

“As I conclude, I want to reiterate to members that they must not be apologetic while executing our constitutional mandate and they must never hesitate to defend themselves when under attack,” Mawela concluded.
