Rand Water will undertake a 56-hour project to reroute a pipeline to facilitate City Power’s expansion of the Mondeor Substation in Johannesburg.

In a statement, the utility said the disruption would begin on 10 October and end on 12 October.

“Rand Water will be diverting a G20 pipeline to allow for City Power’s construction of a power line for their Mondeor Substation.”

The 56-hour disruption will allow City Power to establish an alternative power supply from the Mondeor Substation to Rand Water’s Eikenhof Pumping Station.

“A section of the bulk supplier’s G20 pipeline will be re-routed to tie into a recently diverted 900mm main at Mondeor Substation,” the utility said in a statement.

56-hour disruption to begin on 10 October, says Rand Water

Spokesperson for Rand Water Makenosi Maroo said Johannesburg residents were informed well ahead of time.

“The implementation of the project is in line with the agreement that was signed between the two entities, the diversion of the pipeline and its connection will result in water supply disruptions to areas supplied by this pipeline,

“Rand Water has formally informed the affected customers by issuing a 21-day notice to allow them to implement appropriate contingency measures,” she said as per Jacaranda News.

The utility assured residents that alternative water supply arrangements would be made for affected areas.
