The Road Accident Fund (RAF) is intensifying efforts to tackle its backlog of 321 000 claims by urging claimants to promptly submit outstanding documents, as revealed by RAF Chief Executive Officer Collins Letsoalo in a recent media briefing.

“Supporting documents play a crucial role in finalising a claim efficiently and speedily. They inform the Fund about what is being claimed, set out the basis of the claim, allow the Fund to investigate, and facilitate an assessment on the merits of the motor vehicle accident,” stated Letsoalo in Centurion.

RAF LAUNCHES ‘DRIVE YOUR CLAIM FORWARD’ CAMPAIGN TO EXPEDITE PROCESSING

To expedite the process, the RAF has launched the “Drive Your Claim Forward” campaign, aimed at motivating claimants to provide all necessary information required for investigation and claims processing.

Letsoalo emphasised the significance of addressing delays caused by outstanding documents, particularly comprehensive medical assessments for serious injuries. He highlighted the campaign’s objective to minimise delays and assist all claimants effectively.

In a move to enhance service delivery and manage claim risk, the RAF introduced a new form in July 2022. Letsoalo underscored that the fund’s open claim backlog could have been significantly reduced if claimants and their representatives had submitted all required information and documents upfront.

Furthermore, claimants are encouraged to submit outstanding documents via email or at any of the RAF’s regional offices and customer service centers across the country. Detailed information regarding office locations is available on the fund’s website.

THE FUND OFFERS GUIDANCE AND CONTACT SUPPORT UNDER ‘DRIVE YOUR CLAIM FORWARD’ INITIATIVE

To facilitate claimants in determining the required documents, the RAF has provided guidance on its website under the “Drive Your Claim Forward” banner. Additionally, claimants can reach out to the RAF’s Contact Centre via phone, SMS, or email for assistance. Those requesting a callback will be promptly attended to by Contact Centre agents.

In the unfortunate event of a motor vehicle accident, claimants can access assistance from the RAF Contact Centre during business hours from Monday to Friday.
The RAF’s proactive measures and outreach initiatives underscore its commitment to expediting claims processing and alleviating the burden on claimants awaiting resolution.

Additionally, through collaborative efforts and streamlined processes, RAF aims to enhance service delivery and uphold its mandate of providing support to victims of road accidents across South Africa.
