Quarterly crime stats will be released by SAPS today

Police Minister General Bheki Cele will present the crime stats for the third quarter today, 16 February.

Police Minister General Bheki Cele will present the crime stats for the third quarter.

Cele will present the statistics in Pretoria on Friday, 16 February.

SAPS TO RELEASE QUARTERLY CRIME STATS

South African Police Service (SAPS) National Spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said Cele will present the quarterly crime statistics, reflecting on crimes during the third quarter of the current financial year.

This period covers crimes from 1 October 2023 to 31 December 2023.

HIJACKING HOTSPOTS

According to the crime statistics for the second quarter of the year (July to September) the City of Cape Town dominates the list of top ten hijacking hotspots in the country.

When it comes to carjacking the Western Cape and Gauteng dominate the top ten nationally. Harare in Cape Town retained its spot as the number one hotspot for most hijacking cases reported in the second quarter with a 14% increase compared to the same period in 2022.

Although Nyanga recorded a 53% decrease in reported carkjacking cases it comes in second nationally and also in the Western Cape (City of Cape Town).
