Principal faces investigation for allowing classes in toilets in North West

Swift action by North West Education addressed a concerning situation at Nthapelang Primary, where toilets were being used for classes.

The North West Department of Education took swift action to rectify a concerning situation at Nthapelang Primary School in Matolong village near Taung, where toilets were unexpectedly used for having classes on Wednesday, 17 January 2024.

Upon discovery, the department promptly dispatched officials to address the issue, and by the next day, learners resumed their regular classrooms.

TOILET CLASSES SCANDAL UNCOVERED IN NORTH WEST PROBE

The department investigation revealed that the principal had made a serious mistake by utilising the toilets as classrooms, even though the school had sufficient classrooms available for teaching.

Furthermore, the principal had taken teachers from neighboring schools, a decision considered inappropriate by the department.

In a statement, Viola Motsumi, MEC for Education in the North West, strongly condemned the principal’s actions of allowing learners to have classes in toilets and initiated an investigation into the matter.

“We cannot overemphasise how incorrect this decision undertaken by the principal is. As such, this incident needs our immediate attention. I have since launched a team to formally investigate this incident and pursue appropriate consequences”, Motsumi expressed.

The investigation into having classes in toilets will conclude with appropriate consequences.
