Police recover stolen car 14 years later
The South African Police Service has recovered a car in Mpumalanga that was stolen in Komani (Queenstown) 14 years ago.
After 14 years, Mpumalanga police have successfully recovered a stolen car, demonstrating their unwavering dedication to combating crime.
The breakthrough came when joint Task Team members of Nerston and Mahamba border policing units apprehended a 31-year-old South African male at Nerston Port of Entry on Saturday, 24 February, for the possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
POLICE ROUTINE CHECK UNCOVERS STOLEN CAR MISSING SINCE 2010
During routine vehicle verification, discrepancies in the vehicle identification numbers (VIN) led to further investigation. Authorities revealed the white Toyota Corolla was reported stolen in Komani (Queenstown), Eastern Cape Province, in December 2010.
“Police cannot rule out possibilities of adding other charge of theft of motor vehicle pending investigation.”
Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, commended the Task Team members for their diligence, noting the exceptional recovery of the vehicle more than a decade after its reported theft.
SUSPECT TO FACE COURT FOR STOLEN VEHICLE POSSESSION; FURTHER CHARGES PENDING
The suspect will appear before the Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 February, facing charges related to possessing a stolen vehicle. Pending investigations may lead to additional charges of theft of a motor vehicle.
