A 48-year-old police Captain appeared in the Vryburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 8 June, after he was arrested for alleged theft.
BREACH OF TRUST: POLICE CAPTAIN ACCUSED OF MISUSING STATE RESOURCES
Captain Baile Mokgoro, who is stationed in Vryburg, North West, allegedly filled up a State vehicle at a fuel station in the Vryburg CBD. While he was there, he also allegedly used the State’s resources to purchase fuel for his private generator.

North West SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said Mokgoro threw 40.14 litres, worth R923,43, into the State vehicle and 25 litres (R577,00) into his generator.
“The total amount paid by the state is R1 503,45. Subsequent to reporting of the incident and investigation by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit (ACIU), the member was arrested,” said the police spokesperson.

North West police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena, praised the ACIU for their swift reaction and stressed that dishonest employees have no place in the police service and they will be dealt with.
Captain Mokgoro was released on R500 bail. He is due back in court on Friday, 4 August.
