Planned power outage in Cape Town: Maintenance to affect these areas
Some Cape Town residents will face a 14-hour power outage on 5 April 2025 as the city undertakes crucial maintenance on high-voltage infrastructure.

Residents in parts of Elsies River and Goodwood should prepare for a scheduled power outage as the City of Cape Town conducts essential maintenance on high-voltage infrastructure.
The work is set to begin at 18:00 on Saturday, 5 April, and is expected to be completed by 8:00 on Sunday, 6 April.
Essential maintenance for long-term stability
City officials emphasise that this maintenance is crucial for ensuring the long-term stability of the electricity network.
“The city apologises for any inconvenience,” said the city.
Safety precautions during the Power outage
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions by treating all electrical installations as live throughout the power outage. The City recommends switching off appliances and inverters before the power is restored to avoid system overload and potential damage from power surges.
While power is expected to return as scheduled, officials caution that unexpected challenges may cause delays. Residents are encouraged to monitor the City’s social media channels or call the Call Centre at 0860 103 089 for real-time updates.
Possible impact on nearby areas
Although the outage is planned for Elsies River and Goodwood, surrounding areas may also experience disruptions. The City has assured residents that teams will work efficiently to complete the maintenance within the scheduled timeframe.
“Our teams will work as quickly as possible to complete the work within the communicated times,” the city added.
In the event of extended delays, residents are urged to check the City’s official communication channels or contact the Call Centre for further information.
