Certain areas in Cape Town will have no water on Tuesday, September 3rd, because of scheduled maintenance.

The City of Cape Town also warned that for a short period after the supply has been restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky. This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like normal.

WATER SUPPLY DISRUPTION IN THE CITY OF CAPE TOWN

The City of Cape Town said maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs, and replacementswill result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Part of Claremont and Newlands—The municipality said the Water and Sanitation Directorate needs to urgently repair a connection from the 300mm diameter pipeline into the main water supply in Main Road, Claremont, from 9:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday, September 3.

This will result in the disruption of the water supply during this period to the area bounded by Sans Souci Street, the railway line, Stellenberg Avenue, and Cavendish Street, including the Stadium On Main and Cavendish Shopping Centres in Claremont.

In addition, some consumers may experience no water and others low water pressure. As a precautionary measure, residents and businesses must store enough water in advance.

WATER TANKERS DISPATCHED DUE TO BURST PIPE

Meanwhile, on Saturday, large parts of Cape Town had no water due to a burst pipe.

A 300mm diameter pipe inside the cemetery in Hout Bay burst, leaving a large area without water.

Upon inspection, the maintenance team discovered three bursts in the pipe along Main Road inside the cemetery.

The metro municipality said the water supply from the Hout Bay Reservoir was shut off, causing the network to empty and leaving a large area without water: Baviaanskloof, Mount Rhodes, Suikerbossie, Ruyterplaats, Park Road, Riverside Terrace, Park Avenue, Princess Street and the lower parts of Imizamo Yethu.

Water tankers were also dispatched so that community members can access water.
