On Monday last week, the department began the placement process for 2024, by sending out SMS’s to parents. 141 036 parents have accepted placement offers, with 71 775 yet to respond to the offers.
PARENT’S NEED TO ACCEPT OFFERS
The department has warned parents that they have seven days to respond to an offer before the child’s space at a specific school is offered to someone else.

“The placement process is significantly slowed by parents who are not accepting placement offers as the spaces are reserved for seven days, while no other offers can be released to other applicants from the same school.”
Once parents receive an offer, they have the option of either accepting the offer as final or provisionally accepting the offer while it waits for more offers from other schools.
PLACEMENT CRITERIA
Depending on the schools applied for, the department has set a placement criteria, with those at the top going to receive offers first.
Priority is given to those who;
- Home address is within the school’s feeder zone
- They have siblings already in the school applied for, and
- Their previous school is within the feeder zone
